DVB-T (200-900MHz) Fibre Optic Link

ViaLite Classic and Vialite HD DVB-T fibre optic links enable indoor and outdoor broadcast operators to transport multiple RF DVB-T feeds over optical fibre.  The ultra-wide dynamic range results in negligible degradation of signals due to noise or inter-modulation effects. The link bandwidth covers 470MHz to 860MHz and is transparent to modulation type, making it suitable for conventional analogue signals.

High reliability, comprehensive alarm & status monitoring & wide dynamic range result in a highly flexible product suitable for a wide range of installations.  The link’s operation is independent of data format, and together with its inherently low phase noise performance, it is suitable for almost any type of analogue or digital signal modulation including FM and QPSK.

The ViaLite DVB fibre optic link system is simply inserted between antenna or down-converter and the electrical receiver.  The fibre is lightweight with a small diameter and a cross site cable can be offered with or without an electrical insert to provide power to the remote end.  The fibre optic transmitter can be used to power the antenna / down-converter via a voltage feed from the RF input.  In situations where dual or quad diversity is being used, all RF channels can be transported over a single fibre using the ViaLite high isolation WDM or CWDM technology, where each "channel" is transmitted through the fibre at a separate optical wavelength allowing up to 8 channels to be carried on one fibre.  The DVB-T fibre optic link has options for either 0dB or +9dB link gain and optical connector options that include FC, E2000 and SC.

The broadcast industry has adopted ViaLite DVB fibre optic equipment to deliver broadband multi-media services.  Operators and service provider of fixed and mobile satellite services (FSS and MMS) now rely on ViaLite fibre link equipment to distribute high quality video, voice (including intercom) and data over secure single mode optical fibre. The industry has invested in ViaLite VHF / UHF transmission equipment to provide a low-cost solution to fulfill their capacity expansion requirement in order to grow the subscriber base, and establish a convergent platform capable of distributing next generation, live and recorded content such as:

  • VoD, HDTV (DVB-T2) and DVB-H (Mobile TV), 3DTV
  • IP-centric services such as IPTV, VoIP, Internet

Outdoor Live Broadcasting

ViaLite optical fibre link products are fast becoming the ‘de-facto’ transport platform used throughout the world by broadcasters and program producers to gather ‘breaking-news’ stories and cover live sports event.  Outdoor broadcast (OB) teams now integrated a fibre back-haul link into SNG and ENG platforms because it is light weight, making it easier to rig and de-rig field-base equipment quickly.  The OB community quickly realised and subsequently exploited the fact that single-mode optical fibre has the capacity to simultaneously relay multiple HD video, voice (intercom) and data channels over longer distances; hybrid SMPTE cable is used when power is required at the remote receiver.

Next Generation Roaming Cameras

ViaLite DVB-T fibre converters are also playing an important role in the development of the wireless camera and radio microphone outdoor broadcasting suites. This revolutionary OB platform enables the cameraman the freedom to roam and captures an event’s unique atmosphere seamlessly across temporary deployed cellular diverse network architecture.  Here ViaLite equipment is integrated between the hub receiver down-converter and the media receiver in the OB truck, discretely hidden away from view.
