Long Distance L-Band HTS Link System
The ViaLiteHD long distance L-Band HTS (700-2450MHz), DWDM link system is designed to connect antennas directly to control rooms up to 100km away. Using amplification stages and dispersion compensation, a total distance of 600km is possible.

Solution for rain fade
Antennas and control rooms can be located at geographically diverse locations for a number of reasons such as terrain, cost and as a solution to rain fade for high frequency satellites. Rain fade (also known as rain attenuation) is when bad weather affects a high-frequency Ka-Band signal at the antenna location, disrupting data feed. The use of long distance links allows Satellite Operators to choose between sites for optimal transmission conditions, so the signal from another location (where it is unlikely the weather will also be bad, at the same time) can be used instead.
Ultra-wide dynamic range
One of the link’s key features is the ultra-wide dynamic range. This allows wider bandwidths to be transmitted, for example High Throughput Satellites (HTS); typically 500 or 800MHz. Demand for increased capacity in satellite communication continues to drive the industry to use HTS at these higher frequencies, such as Ka-Band, which is particularly susceptible to rain fade.

Manned from a single control room
ViaLiteHD long distance links can also be controlled remotely using SNMP or Ethernet. This means multiple, unmanned teleport sites can be manned from a single control room, opening up new possibilities for teleport design.
DWDM – 80 links per fiber
The optional use of Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) allows up to 80 links to be sent along a single fiber. These can be setup for short interfacility links (IFLs), as well as over long distances. The DWDM massively reduces the fiber count, minimising fiber leasing/operational costs. DWDM requires the use of multiplexers, amplifiers and dispersion compensation.
The L-Band HTS Long Distance link is available in a couple of formats:
– Single rack chassis card / Dual rack chassis card (Rx/RX, Tx/Tx or Rx/Tx)
A fully populated 19” 3U ViaLiteHD rack chassis supports up to 26 links and accepts 13 RF cards, plus an SNMP card and dual power supply modules. A 1U chassis accepts three RF cards or two RF cards with an SNMP card.
– Yellow OEM Link
The Yellow OEM Link has been designed for system integrators and equipment manufacturers to build the link into their own designs.
