RF & Digital Fibre Optic Link

It is now possible to have simultaneous flows of RF and digital data streams over just one fiber!

The analogue / digital fiber link from ViaLite enables transfer of wideband (10MHz-4.2GHz) RF payloads alongside a range of digital signals.  The link is designed with RF signals isolated from the digital path when data transfer is enabled.

The concept of RF and data on a single fiber is novel and offered to the user community for the first time - only from ViaLite.

Simultaneously transmitting analogue and digital data over fibre has been made possible using a new proprietary Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM) technology.  The RF channel bandwidth is 10MHz to 4.2GHz offering compatibility with low frequency communications, radio and TV transmission, IF, L band and even C Band satellite downlinking.  The digital channel allows 20kbps simplex data transfer in RS422/485/232 formats, therefore accommodating most control and monitoring signals.

The ViaLite analogue and digital fibre link provides satellite operators with an effective bandwidth management tool, avoiding costly allocation of dedicated fibres for monitoring and control.  These signals can now be transferred simultaneously with the L Band or IF 70/140MHz on a single channel, across site, linking the equipment room to the remote antenna.

The RF channel has the wide dynamitic range that is inherent in all ViaLite modules making it suitable for the most demanding applications where other fiber links will fail.  All ViaLite fibre optic links provide a high performance, highly reliable, transparent cross-site connection between RF communications and digital equipment.  Such links are suitable for use in any type of analogue or digital signal modulation including FM and QPSK.  The ViaLite analogue and digital fibre link is available in plug-in module (for standalone, or rack mounting) and OEM module packages.

Typical Applications for Combined Analogue and Digital Transmission

  • Secure antenna remoting and control for special forces or government applications.
  • Bi-directional configurations for TETRA, cellular or WiMax repeaters.
  • Software upload and system control via digital channel.
  • Distributed antenna systems (DAS) with single transmit to multiple receiver modules.
