Timing Reference (1-50MHz) Fiber Optic Link for Satcom Applications
ViaLite Classic and ViaLiteHD fiber optic links connect antennas with control rooms, network operation centers or broadcast head-ends. In satcom installations a timing reference signal is required to lock oscillators in both up and down converters (LNB and BUC).
The ViaLite Timing Reference fiber optic link is designed to be used when a central timing reference signal of 1 to 50MHz is to be distributed to remote locations in satcom antenna installations. The use of single mode optical fiber overcomes problems with signal losses in coaxial cable and provides superior network security.
- Compatible with a wide range of satcom precision frequency sources
- 10kHz – 50MHz analogue time reference signal transmission
- Transmission distances to 50km – no coax cable losses
- Modules for 19” rack chassis, OEM, or outdoor enclosure installation
Timing Reference (1-50MHz) Fiber Optic Link for Time Server and Synchronisation Applications
The ViaLite Timing Reference fiber optic link has been designed to transmit accurate timing and frequency reference signals over single mode optical fiber. Time servers often use GPS and off air low frequency time reference signals to provide a very stable PRC (Primary Reference Clock) or UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) to maintain network and or system synchronicity.
Transmission applications include:
- DCF, MSF & HBG signals
- Loran-C & eLoran
- GPS
- GLONASS
- Galileo
- JJY, BPC, TDF & CHU
- WWVB & WWV signals
- Seismic tracking
- Structural monitoring
- 10kHz – 50MHz signals
In a typical synchronisation example the ViaLite Timing Reference platform has been deployed to facilitate cellular base station time slot alignment (i.e. handover in mobile networks avoiding dropped calls) for TETRA, Wimax and other TDD based radio technologies.
In networks or operating systems that are extensive, it is not always possible to access the Network Time Server (NTS) using a standard Ethernet link. To fulfill the need for synchronicity it is possible to deploy a point to multiple-point timing reference signal star-based topography using ViaLite Timing Reference fiber optic links. This approach is particularly well suited to SFN (Single Frequency Networks) where the primary off-air feed delivers a precise time and frequency reference to synchronised DVB / DAB servers.
ViaLite products are INFOSEC, EMSEC and TEMPEST compliant, so guaranteeing the delivery of services such as GPS/ MSF time signals, digital TV, VHF / UHF radio, cellular and satellite L and C band. The use of secure optical fiber to deliver these services provides benefits in securing government signal intelligence gathering centers against lightning & EMP strikes. It can also prevent attempts to eavesdrop or corrupt critical operational and sensitive data.
ViaLite Time & Frequency solutions are available in plug-in module, OEM module or ViaLiteHD formats.
