Broadcast Links

The VialiteHD range of fiber optic links enable indoor and outdoor broadcast operators to transport multiple RF feeds between cameras, wireless microphones and production communications (such as IFBs over optical fiber).  The ultra-wide dynamic range allows for multiple signals to be transported simultaneously.

The Broadcast links offered are:

  1. Green OEM Link covering 100 MHz-1 GHz with voltage protection
  2. UHF/VHF 10 MHz-1 GHz
  3. DVB-T 470-900 MHz with input voltage protection.
  4. Black OEM covering 10 MHz – 6 GHz (frequency range), IP55 rated for outdoor use

Main features and benefits:

  • The Green OEM Link (previously known as the Broadcast module) is an HD replacement for both the 1 GHz and DVB-T Classic OEMs
  • The Green OEM Link has a very low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Find out more here.
  • Input Voltage Protection ensures stray voltages from other equipment does not damage the links
  • WDM for diverse antennas on a single fiber
  • Wide dynamic range allows multiple cameras or microphones of varying powers over a single link
  • Standard link 1 m to 10 km
  • 5-year warranty as standard.

We also have a C-Band Link (3.4-7.1 GHz). You may also be interested in our Connection Kits.

Broadcast Links

Ultra-wide dynamic range

The ultra-wide dynamic range allows for multiple cameras or microphones to be transmitted down a single fiber, even at varying signal levels.  This allows for many cameras or audio devices – at varying distances from the antennas – to be transmitted simultaneously.

Green OEM Link

Form-fit and function replacement for ViaLite’s DVB-T and UHF/VHF Classic OEM links.  The Green OEM Link was previously known as the Broadcast module.

The Green module has exceptionally low power usage at just Tx – 1.1 W and Rx – 0.8 W.  This reduced power consumption is particularly important within the broadcast market, with wireless mics and cameras typically being battery-powered. The lower consumption means cheaper, smaller and lighter batteries with a shorter battery life can be used.

CWDM and WDM

WDM allows for diversity antennas to be transmitted down a single fiber.  CWDM allows for multiple antennas to be transmitted back via a single fiber or to be integrated into an existing fiber data network.

Inbuilt bias tee

The fiber optic transmitter can be used to power the antenna / down-converter via a voltage feed from the RF input.

Further features and benefits:

  • Enclosures available for outdoor installations
  • Minimal carrier to noise degradation
  • Frequency response independent of path length
  • Low cost compared with coaxial cable
  • Non-conductive and immunity to electrical interference.

The broadcast industry has adopted ViaLiteHD fiber optic equipment for remoting wireless production.  Operators rely on ViaLiteHD fiber link equipment to produce high quality video and voice output (including intercom) over single-mode optical fiber.

Outdoor Live Broadcasting

ViaLiteHD optical fiber link products are fast becoming the ‘de-facto’ transport platform used throughout the world by broadcasters and program producers to cover ‘breaking-news’ and live sporting events.  Outdoor broadcast (OB) teams now integrate a fiber back-haul link into SNG and ENG platforms because it is lightweight – making it easier to rig and de-rig field-based equipment quickly.

The OB community quickly realized and subsequently exploited the fact that single-mode optical fiber has the capacity to simultaneously relay multiple HD video, voice (intercom) and data channels over longer distances.  Hybrid SMPTE cable is used when power is required at the remote receiver.

Next Generation Roaming Cameras

ViaLiteHD fiber converters are also playing an important role in the development of the wireless camera and radio microphone outdoor broadcasting suites.  This revolutionary Outdoor Broadcast (OB) platform gives the cameraman the freedom to roam and captures an event’s unique atmosphere, seamlessly, across temporarily deployed cellular diverse network architecture.  – Here ViaLiteHD equipment is integrated between the down-converter and the media receiver in the OB truck (front of house), discretely hidden away from view.

Broadcast 100 MHz-1 GHz link hardware formats

– Green OEM Link

The Green module has exceptionally low power usage at just Tx – 1.1 W and Rx – 0.8 W and replaces the Classic (legacy range) module.

UHF/VHF 10 MHz-1 GHz  and  DVB-T 470-900 MHz broadcast link hardware formats

These links are available in several formats:

– Single Rack Chassis Card / Dual rack chassis card (Rx/Rx, Tx/Tx or Rx/Tx)

A fully populated 19” 3U ViaLiteHD rack chassis supports up to 26 links and accepts 13 RF cards, plus a Monitoring & Control Module and dual power supply modules.  A 1U chassis accepts three RF cards or two RF cards with a Monitoring & Control Module.

– Blue OEM Link

The ViaLite standalone Blue OEM Link offers a compact, single link solution.

– Blue2 Link

The Blue2 Link is a dual-solution OEM which can be setup as 2x transmitters, 2x receivers or a transceiver, as required.

– Yellow OEM Link

The Yellow OEM Link has been designed for system integrators and equipment manufacturers to build the link into their own designs.

A range of support modules and accessories is also available, including indoor rack chassis units and weatherproof outdoor enclosures.

See our hardware formats guide for more information.

Black OEM covering 10 MHz – 6 GHz (frequency range), IP55 rated for outdoor use hardware formats

The Black OEM module covers a wide frequency range from 10 MHz to 6 GHz, has been designed with harsh environmental conditions in mind and is IP55 rated for outdoor use. It can be used in a wide variety of applications: Mil-Aero, Broadcast, Satcom, GPS/Timing.

Options include:

The fiber optic links have options for either 0 dB or +9 dB link gain.  Plus optical connector options such as FC, E2000 and SC.
