RF over Fiber – the Obvious Choice for Power Station Timing Signals
Rome-based Temi Tecnologie recently turned to ViaLite Communications to provide RF over fiber links for a power station project.
The installation required connection of four GPS antennas to relay the timing signals for the power station’s IT control system. Since the antennas were located up to 1km apart, RF over fiber was the obvious choice as fiber optic cable offers very low attenuation at long distances. It also provides immunity to the high levels of electromagnetic interference (EMI) produced by power stations.
“The customer was very happy with our system’s performance,” said ViaLite European sales representative Amair Khan. “They appreciated the capability to change gain settings even over a legacy multimode link.”
As well as low attenuation and high immunity to EMI, ViaLite’s fiber optic links have the advantages of high reliability, compact equipment size, simple installation and low maintenance.
