TV Coverage of Australian Sailing Races made Possible with ViaLite Fiber Links

Spectacular coverage of the Match Cup Australia sailing regatta this March was provided by Red Handed TV with the help of ViaLite RF over fiber links. The single-mode links, which were up to 6 km long, connected ViaLiteHD equipment built into waterproof Peli cases to provide the portability needed for full coverage around the Perth coastline.

The Blue OEM standalone modules used have a small form factor and low power consumption, with an ultra-wide dynamic range that enables multiple signals to be transported simultaneously. The DVB-T links cover 470 to 900 MHz and enable the use of wireless cameras and microphones in distant locations.

“We think of ViaLite kit as being bulletproof,” said Mike Hutton, technical director of Red Handed TV. “As well as being reliable, the fact that it is compact and can be run from broadcast batteries makes it ideal for us.”

The UK production company is the exclusive media partner to the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) global sailing series, delivering a mix of live and highlight programing to over 39 international broadcasters, with the ViaLite equipment.

The Match Cup Australia was the first event on the 2017 World Match Racing Tour, a seven regatta circuit taking in venues in the United States and Europe before ending in China for the World Championships.
