Process Upgrades Help Speed RFoF Production at ViaLite

Ensuring that its RF over fiber (RFoF) products are of the highest quality and delivered on time has always been a top priority for ViaLite. With that in mind, the company embarked on a program to investigate whether there was any room for improvement in its production processes, such as fine tuning quality control and reducing lead times.

For this, ViaLite’s Production team employed a data-driven quality strategy to identify areas where efficiency could be further enhanced. They adopted an improvement technique known as DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), which is an established management tool designed to improve and optimize business processes.

“We wanted to find out if there were any areas where we could make adjustments to the production process to ensure we are consistently operating at the highest efficiency,” said ViaLite Manufacturing Manager, Ryan Woods.

100% of ViaLite’s products are tested upon build and optimizing this test process was an important part of the improvement program. Works undertaken included upgrading to state of the art microscope equipment in order to better support new product developments covering higher frequency RFoF links.

Other improvements to the production process were also made to help trim lead times. The team analyzed stock levels and safety stock in order to improve stock level accuracy and ensure the right parts were available at all times.
