Open Golf Coverage on the Ball with ViaLite RF over Fiber Links
Comprehensive television coverage of The Open golf championship at Carnoustie this summer was again made possible by ViaLite’s RF over fiber extension links. They were part of the high tech equipment installed by Broadcast RF, who provided full RF services for the 147th staging of the event.
Setting up the RF infrastructure and 25 wireless cameras at key locations around the course was demanding, especially as the course on the east coast of Scotland is particularly long and narrow, being at over 7400 yards the longest of The Open venues.
“We ask a lot from the RF over fiber extension systems to deliver the facilities that Broadcast RF requires for the outside broadcast market, which is why we again chose ViaLite to supply their fiber modules for our bespoke extension systems,” said Nick Fuller, Technical Project Manager at Broadcast RF.
ViaLite links can cover with ease the distances involved in large scale venues such as golf courses, racetracks and sports stadia. RF over fiber also has the advantage of being lighter and faster to deploy than copper coax and can be easily integrated with existing networks.
Broadcast RF specialize in RF technology used in making television programs covering sports, news and light entertainment events. They are exclusive suppliers to some of the largest television facility companies and offer the most innovative RF equipment available.
