Telesat is a leading global satellite operator, providing reliable and secure satellite-delivered communications solutions worldwide to broadcast, telecom, corporate and government customers.

The Problem

The Ka-Band signals from the new Telstar 12 VANTAGE high throughput satellite (HTS) can be affected by rain fade. The signals are used for VSAT gateways which have a high level of QOS and have a system architecture which is timing dependant.

The Solution

Connecting two satellite dishes over a long distance to allow for the signal to be used from the location with the best weather conditions (it is unlikely there would be bad weather conditions in both locations at the same time), whilst ensuring that the through space time delay from the gateway to and from the satellite remains constant. ViaLite designed, supplied and installed a Long Distance Link system to seamlessly connect the two diverse antennas.

Benefits

  • Solution for rain fade.
  • No loss in data when switching between satellite dishes.
  • The time-critical transfer required by the TDMA VSAT Hub application (for IP) is met.
  • Can be controlled remotely and from a single control room.
