ViaLite RF over Fiber Links Help Expand Fucino Space Centre
As part of an expansion program by Italian satellite solutions provider Telespazio, ViaLite is to provide short-range interfacility RF over fiber links for its Fucino Space Centre near Rome.
Fucino Space Centre is the largest civil space centre in the world
The high performance ViaLiteHD modules are being supplied by local ViaLite representatives Sematron Italia to connect more of the teleport’s satellite antennas to the main control room using fiber optic links. They will be used to carry data, communications and broadcast as well as secure government communications.
RF over fiber modules operate by converting the radio input into analog light signals by modulating the intensity of a laser source and transmitting it over a fiber optic cable. The technology has a number of advantages over traditional copper coaxial cable, which is limited to shorter distances.
Through its Fucino Space Centre, Telespazio carries out ground-satellite integrated connectivity services on a global and regional scale, both fixed and mobile, for the major satellite operators. It also manages television services, as well as multimedia transmission networks and IP platforms.
