Switch to ViaLite RF over Fiber Brings a Tenfold Boost to Reliability
A leading worldwide cable TV sports network has been replacing its legacy RF over fiber links. Used for transporting IF signals in satcom broadcast, the new state-of-the-art equipment supplied by ViaLite consists of ViaLiteHD 3U rack chassis and cards, in a fully redundant configuration.
ViaLite equipment is frequently used to upgrade older RF over fiber links, which in this case was a Force 3000 system, as it brings a vast improvement in performance. For example, it is expected to provide a reliability more than ten times greater than the equipment it is replacing!
The new system has been successfully tested by the sports network, who appreciated the improved overall performance and much easier installation.
“The customer chose ViaLiteHD for its superior design and performance as well as our pre/post-service support,” said ViaLite director of sales Craig Somach.
“In the event, the quick and straightforward implementation exceeded their expectations.”
Each ViaLiteHD 3U chassis can hold up to 13 RF dual cards – up to 26 links, plus an SNMP card and two power supplies. All ViaLite modules are hot swappable, avoiding the need to power down the chassis prior to swapping out modules. This can be combined with blind mate connectivity and/or redundancy to ensure almost zero downtime.
