On-board LNB/LNA powering – option 4

This option is only available on rack chassis cards.

The on-board powering function is only available on transmitters (single, dual or transceiver). Voltages are fed through the Tx RF input connector from within the RF over fiber card and can be used to power connected equipment, typically an LNA or LNB.

This solution is an internally generated +13/18V selectable LNB/LNA voltage, with 22 kHz tone to power and control the polarization of the LNA/LNB. This is selectable via DIP switches on the card or using the SNMP Monitor & Control.

There is also a 22V option and a 1V overdrive facility for the +13/18V allowing 14V and 19V.

The option has a maximum current of 350 mA per channel in a dual card and 700 mA per channel in a single card.

There is a voltage alarm which gives a minor alarm when the on-board power to the external equipment is turned off. If the priority of the alarm needs to be changed, the ‘Voltage Alarm Pri’ (voltage alarm priority) setting can be set to no alarm (OFF), minor alarm or major alarm.

DC Path through BUC, LNB/LNA or Block Down Converter (BDC) – option 3 (standard on all L-Band HTS Tx products)

Transmitters and receivers, in any format, can provide power to external equipment via the RF connector using their internal bias tee.

The DC path is supplied from the rear connector of the rack chassis units or the OEM connector. The external feed can be between 0 and +28V for transmitters and -36V and +36V for receivers. The current for either the transmitter or receiver can be up to 700mA per channel.

There is a voltage alarm which monitors the external feed voltage status and if there is an external device attached. It can be switched ON or OFF (the default is ON/minor). There will be a minor alarm if no external device is attached.

If the priority of the alarm needs to be changed, the ‘Voltage Alarm Pri’ (voltage alarm priority) setting can be set to no alarm (OFF), minor alarm or major alarm.

GPS powering – options 1 & 2

There are two powering options for GPS Tx modules: +5V or +12V. These need to be specified at the time of ordering and are available on all GPS modules. These provide a +5V or +12V feed to the GPS antenna via the RF input connector.

Tx modules have a GPS monitoring feature which monitors the current drawn by the GPS antenna. If the antenna is removed or fails, the Tx module switches off its laser. This will force a major alarm on the Rx module.

The GPS alarm mode can be disabled using SNMP Monitor & Control.

No voltage feed – option 0

Products are available with no on-board powering or bias tee feed through, this is common in receivers.

Summary Table

The table shows all the available power feed options.  Please note that not all options are relevant for all products and formats.

Precautions must be taken to ensure that any connected equipment is tolerant of the DC voltages supplied.
