RF over fiber links can be used for the transportation of signals in numerous applications, including: military aerospace and defense electronic telemetry systems, missile testing, UAVs for remote sensing, wide bandwidth signal intelligence (SIGINT) monitoring, signal distribution between satcom ground station and local or remote antennas, real-time data transfer, and ground to air comms.
With missile testing, the missiles can be tracked – using Telemetry, Tracking and Control – and monitored from launch through to ‘splash-down’, allowing for missiles to be steered and analyzed during flight. The use of RF over fiber also allows equipment to be remotely located on test ranges, away from the control rooms.
Ideal for the defense market, RF over fiber links provide improved security against signal interception. Coaxial cable, in comparison, can be intercepted without the receiver noticing.
